Help for common problems when reborning:

My baby has chalky areas on her where the oil wash appears white, what do I do?
Baby oil gel or lotion may help rid your baby of the chalky appearance if you use a paint brush or q-tip and rub it in, the baby will look oily but when it dries, the chalky white look should be gone. You can also try using a baby wipe on the chalky areas after the oil wash has cured.

I tried to dye mohair and it is a felted clumped up mess.  What happened?
The temperature of the water and dye must be kept hot. It is the change of temperature from hot to cold that felts the mohair.  Agitation of the mohair will also cause felting.

There are ink marks and stains on my baby, how do I get the marks off or do I have to throw this baby away?
It is rare that a baby has to be thrown away for something as easy to fix as stains and ink marks. Use a benzoyl peroxide product, such as acne gel and apply it to the area where you want the marks removed. Leave on overnight (in some instances for weeks!) and the stains will be slowly removed. If you want to hasten the process - apply heat, such as from a hair dryer, or leave the baby in the sun.

I bought a doll with rooted hair.  Can I root it’s head or do I have to use a wig?
You can carefully remove the rooted hair by snipping the braids inside the head with the tip of an exacto knife, then pull the hair from the outside with a pair of needle nose pliers, being careful not to tear the vinyl.  After the baby’s hair is removed, use a hair dryer or other heat source to shrink the holes and root the baby’s head in the holes that exist.  You can use a wig if you want, but you don’t have to.

I have a problem with sharp ends on my cable ties, what do I do?
Cut the ties very close to the end with a pair of nail clippers and then glue a piece of fabric over the
end so the edge is covered. No more scratches :-)

My baby has full arms and legs, can they be cut down to make them more posable? If they can how do you keep them from coming out of the cable ties since the limbs won't have grooves on them?
Yes, the baby's arms can easily be cut down to make baby more posable. Before you cutting the limbs, have your body ready so you can make sure they are the correct length. If they are too long, you can always cut them smaller, but if you cut them too much...ooops. When putting a doll back together that doesn't have the channel (like the Berjusas) it is really easy. Run a bead of Quick Grip glue around the upper edge of the limb where the channel would normally be and cinch down the body on the line of glue with the cable tie. Make sure the hands and feet are positioned properly - you don't want to glue the feet on with the toes pointing down!

My Lee Middleton doll has a wig. How do I get it off and do I have to use a wig again or can I root it?
Lee Middleton dolls have wigs that are glued around the edge. Remove the wig by rolling the edge of the wig backwards on to a pencil.  This method gives a better grip and leverage as the glue that the wig is put on with makes it really hard to take the wig off. When the wig is removed, there will be a mold line and a hole. The mold line can be sanded off and the hole is either filled with sculpey and rooted into or glue a piece of felt in the inside of the head where the hole is and root through the felt. Lee Middletons can be either wigged or rooted, they are darling no matter what you do.
