Questions - Page 2 - Answers to common questions when reborning:

What kind of dolls can be reborned?
The dolls that are the most commonly reborned are Berenguer dolls www.jctoys.com and you will see a plethora of them for sale on Ebay. The dolls that are bringing more money that are reborned are the Zapf, Lee Middleton - Reva Schick and Eva Helland, Ashton Drake - Linda Webb, and other sculptor's dolls. We carry the Ashton Drake and the Berenguer (Special Edition and La Babies), also Lee Middleton - rare, discontinued and also the full line of current baby dolls.

Other dolls can be reborn - Berjusa, Shelton, Pat Moulton, Apple Valley, Cititoy and just about any doll that is vinyl that has good quality vinyl with nice detailing and looks realistic.

What materials are used to weight reborn babies?
We use polyfil and poly pellets as they are easy to work with and sterile. Sand can be used to weight the limbs - some countries will stop the dolls at the border for irradiation or return.

How do I color the dolls?
There are a number of products that are used to color the dolls to make them appear more lifelike. Whatever products you use, make sure that they are permanent and will not damage the vinyl over time. Use the internet to find websites and groups about reborning to educate yourself. Find dolls you like and ask the reborner who created the baby if they will share their techniques.

Do I put more than one layer of acrylic paint on the inside of the doll and what happens if the paint inside flakes off?
Only one coat is necessary - it is the transference of the pigment in the paint to the vinyl that is desirable, it is not the layer of paint itself that you are interested in and another layer won't make any difference. The stain of the paint into the vinyl is what makes the change in coloring so even if the paint flakes off when dry it doesn't matter, the stain is there and makes the baby have a nice skin tone

How do I attach eyelashes to my baby doll?
Put tiny beads of glue or run a thin line of glue on the base of the lashes with a dental pick and then carefully lay the eyelash edge starting at one side and laying it down in a rolling motion to the other side of the lash. Never try putting the eyelashes on by simply putting the entire lash down at one time, there would be glue smeared on the eye.

I don’t want to open my baby’s nostrils, what else can I do to make baby look more real around the nose?
Adora of www.sweetdreamsbabies.com had this suggestion: Paint the nostrils with a tiny brush in dark brown oil paint (no medium, just straight color), use Winsor & Newton burnt umber. In case you need to correct the nostrils, use a q-tip.
