Questions - Page 3 - Answers to common questions when reborning:
A site I am on has the right click disabled so I can’t copy the pictures to refer to. How can I get around the disabled right click? I only want to look at the pictures to try to get better at reborning and don’t want to use the picture for anything else. To get around the right click all anyone has to do is click on VIEW at the top of the browser page in IE, and click on SOURCE and it will show all the HTML (computer language) that makes up the page, then click on EDIT and FIND then type in JPG and it will show you all the picture links. You might want to look for GIF as well, but usually the pictures are JPG. Cut and paste the http://www.grandmothersattic.net/assets/images/ecrudress_sm.jpeg or whatever URL you find into another open browser window and VIOLA you have the picture. Right click on the picture and COPY to paste into your email or right click and SAVE AS to your hard drive.
However, It is not nice to take other folks pictures without their permission, so if folks have the right click feature disabled on their pages please consider emailing the website owner and ask if they would mind sending you the picture you are interested in.
Is acetone the best to remove factory paint? Won't this deteriorate the vinyl? Are there other options? The acetone should never be left to stand on the vinyl, use it with a cotton ball and swipe once or you will put the paint back on with the second swipe. The acetone simply removes the paint and harmlessly evaporates. However, if you don't want to use acetone, there is Goof Off cleaner. If acetone is allowed to stand on the vinyl and soak in, it will change the composition of the vinyl and make baby shiny and unable to take paint. After you have removed the paint, give the doll baking soda bath to neutralize the acetone and then a hot soapy bath in the kitchen sink with dish detergent.
If you accidentally drip acetone on the doll or use too much, boil the baby's head in a pot for 20 minutes and then give baby a baking soda bath to try to undo the damage. If there is just a shiny drip area, use fine wet/dry sandpaper to rub the spot lightly - you will be amazed how easy and quickly the spot disappears. Sometimes the dolls arrive from the factory with a shiny rub spot on their faces from shipping. Use very fine sandpaper to remove the shiny spot. Rubbing alcohol will also allow paint to adhere if you have a problem after you have used acetone on the vinyl and paint won’t stick.
My Lee Middleton doll has a wig. How do I get it off and do I have to use a wig again or can I root it? Lee Middleton dolls have wigs that are glued around the edge. Remove the wig by rolling the edge of the wig backwards on to a pencil. This method gives a better grip and leverage as the glue that the wig is put on with makes it really hard to take the wig off. When the wig is removed, there will be a mold line and a hole. The mold line can be sanded off and the hole is either filled with sculpey and rooted into or glue a piece of felt in the inside of the head where the hole is and root through the felt. Lee Middletons can be either wigged or rooted, they are darling no matter what you do.
