Questions - Page 4 - Answers to common questions when reborning:
Do I need to seal my reborn baby? In the 'old days' when reborning was just getting off the floor - reborners experimented with different types of sealers. The reality, though, is that nothing needs to be sealed if the baby is done correctly as the color sinks into the medium and stains it, becoming one with the baby. If you can take your fingernail and scratch off the color, you haven't reborned the baby properly.
Can I paint the eyes that are in the doll myself instead of buying some? Yes. Take a pair of eyes out of a doll you are reborning and peel out the paper coloring in the eye from the inside so all you have is clear plastic where the eye coloring is. With acrylic paints color the iris in a ring radiating out from the center, leaving the center blank. Then using black or dark blue paint, do the center of the eye for the pupil, then on the third layer, fill in the radiating line gaps on the iris.
Voila! Done! Please be sure to seal the back. I have some where the back wasn't painted with a sealer and a chunk came off so I have to try to fix the eye. Where the chunk of paint came off, it is clear all the way through. Be sure to paint the rest of the inside of the eye white.
What can I do to make my Ebay listings more effective? Reasons why some listings are more successful than others: 1. The reborner has built up a loyal following. 2. Pictures must be excellent - show a lot of detail and position the baby as a real baby would be positioned. I had an auction up that got terrible results until a reborner emailed me to tell me my baby looked like a doll. At the time I was hurt, it was a snotty email, but I redid the pictures and she sold for good money. No complaints as I danced my way to the bank :-) If you don't have a good photo program, I recommend Adobe Photoshop. Learn how to use your digital camera to take good close-ups and experiment to see what kind of lighting gets the best results in coloring. Pictures should be SHARP & CLEAR! 3. Have your listings end on Fri, Sat or Sun night between 5 to 9 pm. Listings on Sunday seem to get better results. 4. Advertise - don't just expect Ebay to find your buyer for you. Post links to reborn lists or anywhere else you can think of. Email links to friends or past buyers. 5. Verbiage - make sure the buyer knows what they are getting. How much does the baby weigh? How long is it. What kind of doll did you start with? Hand rooted or wigged? With what? How much is shipping and do you ship worldwide. Do you ship immediately upon payment? What experience does the reborner have - those logos and testimonials really help boost and auction - don't forget to use our RBD logo if you are a member, it is on our yahoo groups main website - you can cut and paste it into your auction. 6. Are you on the RBD Safe Sellers List? Lots of reborners tell me that really helps and there are hundreds of folks on our list already with more submitting requests for inclusion. Go to www.grandmothersattic.net and click on Safe Sellers List. 7. How appealing is your auction? Does reading and viewing it make you feel like you are in a nursery ready to goo over the babies? Templates help, but more importantly, professionalism in appearance is wonderful. 8. Spelling. We can’t emphasize this enough. Check your wording to make sure the sentences make sense and are spelled correctly!
