Spencer’s Story - continued from page 2

PRAYER CHAINS ACROSS THE WORLD.

Thank you so much for starting the prayer chain. Know my prayers join the others for everyone who is suffering or in need. God loves each and every one of us, and we all need to be prepared to be His hands and feet if He calls upon us to be the way he answers the prayers. Thank you so much, I feel the arms of God wrap around me as friends answer the plea for help, solace, and understanding. You are such a kind and gentle soul and are appreciated so much. Note: Prayers for Spencer and his family are coming from New Zealand, Denmark, Canada, United States, Australia, England and other countries.

NEW EXCITING UPDATE ON SPENCER...

I just called the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to see how Spencer Gordon Lewis is doing. I am thrilled to tell you that this miracle baby is still with us. He is amazing all the doctors as he was not expected to live past a few hours. There is a Neonatal Genetic Specialist flying in next Tuesday to see Spencer and evaluate him - we are praying that he lives that long.

The family is so grateful for all the prayers on their behalf and for their son. They request that prayers be said that "the Lord's will be done on Spencer's behalf". I have conveyed all of your love and best wishes for them and they appreciate the kindness shown so much.

Spencer has strawberry blonde hair - his daddy is going bald and swears that Spencer has all of his hair that Jack lost! Spencer is responding well to his mother, Brenda, singing to him. Jack says all the nurses stop and listen as Brenda softly sings to her baby. She is a beautiful voice and has performed in public many times, including at the Newborns in Need convention. www.newbornsinneed.org Jack says his son is very handsome (of course :-) Most of the defects are internal, so don't show.

Please keep the prayer circles and individual prayers rising heavenward - they are truly making a difference - I can't believe that Spencer is stabilizing and is still here with us!!

HOPE SHINING BRIGHTLY BEFORE US....

He IS a fighter!! He is STABILIZING - amazing all the doctors - I believe it's the power of prayer. Big happy dance here!!!

EXCITEMENT BUILDS AS SPENCER AMAZES EVERYONE!

Spencer is stabilizing - he is still not expected to make it, but he is still here with us and opening his eyes - he actually squeezed his mothers baby finger with his little hand - he is an amazing miracle baby. I really appreciate your buying gowns - they went out today priority post :-) I am using some of the money on the Lewis family - you are a blessing to them :-)

Keep praying for them, please - that was Jack's message today - he knows that prayers are helping his son and he begs for us to keep praying for Spencer.  Jack firmly believes that it is the prayers and love that is keeping his son alive and helping him to stabilize. We will know more about Spencer’s condition and future when the appointment with the specialist for genetic disorders takes place on Tuesday.

I am really getting excited about all of us reborning (making a baby doll that looks just like)  Spencer. What do you think of the idea of reborning two and auctioning one off on Ebay to donate to the family? The growing expenses have got to be out of this world - and traveling back and forth 4 hours to the hospital each way is really going to put wear and tear on their vehicle.

SAMANTHA FOR NANNY?

Thanks so much, I have placed an offer on a Samantha doll and am waiting to see if it gets accepted. The doll is going to need clothing and I am very grateful that you are willing to make her some. When I told Jack that I had asked for help from some of the most wonderful ladies in the world, he was so touched and said to thank everyone for their prayers and love. Regarding Samantha, he said: "Nanny is going to be so happy". She has wanted this doll for a long time.

Nanny's real name is Nancy, but when she was little she could only say "Nanny" and it stuck *grin* She is the cutest little girl with a delicate face and blonde hair. She looks very underweight and small, but don't let it kid you - she is a bundle of energy and loves to mother her baby brother, David. I know it has been a severe disappointment to her that she can't mother Spencer right now, and perhaps never, but we are working on that as well. As soon as the pics arrive back from the hospital, I want to start coordinating the efforts for reborning Spencer. Nanny will be able to hold her "baby brother" at last.

YES!!  HIGH FIVES!

I thought I would update you on the Samantha doll. The seller emailed me to accept my offer  for the doll and she will ship it on Monday. She said she can't find the outfit that goes on her, so I am very grateful that you are willing to sew her some clothes.

I really appreciate you, and think you are wonderful to help little Nanny with her dream doll. Since she can't mother her baby brother, she will be able to mother Samantha. Spencer is still very much in the woods, but as far as I know he is still with us.

Thank you sooooo much, I really appreciate your love and kindness - you are truly going the extra mile and I appreciate you. Please put a note in the box with the value of the doll clothing so we can send you a tax deductible receipt for your donation since Newborns in Need is a 501 (c) 3 charity registered with the IRS and can issue receipts.

Little Nanny is going to be so excited! Thank you so much!!! I told Brenda tonight what you had done for her daughter and she is so grateful, God bless you. I want to send you some Newborns in Need patterns to say thank you for making and sending the clothing - please send me your address - I know you will love the patterns - do you have any of the sets yet, if so - tell me which one so I can send you one you don't have, there are three sets.

I am so grateful for your help. There is going to be one VERY excited 10 year old. Brenda said she thinks she needs to save the doll for Christmas for Nanny because there won't be much else. If there is a crisis and she feels Nanny needs it before then, she will give it to her early.

THE QUESTION WAS ASKED....

...sometimes it's just impossible to understand how God can let these kind of things happen, isn't it?

THE ANSWER...

We are really praying hard for this little fellow ;-) I know why God is allowing this to happen.....little Spencer is so tiny he can't talk, but his plight speaks volumes, he can walk but his message of love is going worldwide, he can't write, but thousands of words on his behalf and the behalf of other babies in crisis are being written, he knows nothing of the world yet, but many people in the world know of him. Because of tiny little Spencer there are many people working together in love to help not only him and his family, but many other babies in similar crisis.

Spencer, without doing anything but just being here has made the lives of so many people a lot richer, children in homes around the nation are getting extra hugs from parents who realize what a blessing they are and shopkeepers who normally do business based on money are donating supplies out of the goodness of their hearts.

God works through all situations to bless all of his children, and it is very clear that there is a special place in God's heart for Spencer - his simply still being with us for so long has defied all odds.

RIDING A WAVE OF HAPPINESS AND HOPE...

Spencer has an appt. on Tuesday with a specialist, in the mean time, we are all pretty ecstatic about him - keep those prayers coming. He is amazing everyone. I am hoping that what they learn from Spencer will help other little one's in his condition.

Exciting news! I just got off the phone with Brenda and her little darling Spencer is still with us and IMPROVING! He is defying all odds. Spencer was born last Saturday at 9 PM weighing in at 5 pounds 8 ounces and was born with fatal genetic problems - he was never expected to live through birth and if he did, then only for a few hours. He has been fighting like crazy to remain with us and I am so excited to tell you he is breathing a lot better now on the respirator - he doesn't have to use as much oxygen.

He lost weight and is now only 4 pounds 15 ounces, got through the threat of pneumonia and working through the jaundice, but ready for the visit from the genetic specialist on Tuesday. Brenda and Jack Lewis said to thank everyone for their prayers, they believe that your prayers are helping to heal their son and requests that the prayer circles and prayer chains continue - their sweet little son needs your help.

The pictures from the hospital should be here soon and I am going to be writing a web site and posting the link so everyone can see Spencer. At first our main concern was money for the hospital and funeral expenses, now our concern is other expenses and traveling and living expenses - right now Jack has to travel hours there and back to see his son and bring the other children to see their mother and brother.. It takes gas money, etc.

Lots of us have already committed to help reborn (make a baby doll just like) Spencer. We want to do 2 - one to go to the family and one to be auctioned off on Ebay to raise money to help pay the bills. Joan has also agreed to make a porcelain baby for Brenda to keep up in her room as a family keepsake to remember Spencer's struggles by. The reborn baby will be one that the children will be allowed to hold carefully in lieu of holding their baby brother. Another sweet friend has offered to wood carve a bust of Spencer.

Quite honestly, Spencer is still not expected to make it, but we are still praying and hopeful. Please join us with prayers, and if you would like to help this family as the Christmas season approaches and they are in need of basic things like shoes and clothing, please E-mail me at order@grandmothersattic.net The children at home that need help are David 5, Nanny 10, Ezra 8 (really needs clothing badly), and Jay 13. Their older sister, Cara is in Sao Paulo Brazil - she is a missionary, Daniel is in Utah and is getting ready to leave on his mission and the oldest daughter Rachel is a new mom and lives in Utah. I have the younger children's sizes if you have gently used clothing you would like to send.

I am really looking forward to the pictures of Spencer so we can all get to work reborning him.  I am so grateful for the help everyone has offered. Jack has been so caught up taking Brenda to specialist appointments and caring for her it has affected his ability to support the family.
